This gallery consists of various photos I took during my JOURNEYS trip to Guatemala as a first-year. During my time in Guatemala, my classmates and I went on various excursions, sat in on multiple presentations lead by local NGOs, and participated in a local homestay. Some of the organizations we visited included WINGS , Ecofiltro , Common Hope/Familias De Esperanza , Long Way Home , Wuqu’ Kawoq , and the Women’s Justice Initiative . We also went on excursions to a local coffee plantation, a Pre-Columbian Mayan site (Iximche), and a chocolate museum (ChocoMuseo ). During our time in Guatemala, we visited a handful of Guatemalan cities, including Antigua, Tecpan, San Juan, and Panajachel. This experience was meaningful to me because it is one of the most definitive experiences I’ve had at Agnes Scott College. My JOURNEY to Guatemala solidified my choice to major in public health, sparked my passion for maternal and reproductive health, and connected me with peers with whom I have formed long-lasting relationships.
